- System Image
- Data backup
Here we will talk about Creating a System Image. I will explain data backups in another post.
A System Image is a backup of all the files needed to run Windows and it can also contain programs you have installed.
So you can install and configure your Windows environment with all your programs and then create a backup of your system files in case you want to revert to this point, or if you want to reinstall after a disk failure.
To backup our Windows sytem, we will need an external drive (or a network location) and a DVD.
1 – Search for Backup and Restore and launch it.
2 – Select Create a System Image
3 – Choose a place to save your image. Plug your external drive with enough space to store the image and select it. If your Windows edition enables it, you can select a network location. But Don’t pick a place on your local Hard drive.
If you select a Network location (according to your Windows Edition), you have to enter your credentials in order to give access.
4 – Choose drives to backup
5 – Clic Next. and then click Start Backup.
6 – When the backup of the image is finished, you are asked if you want to create a System repair disc. If you don’t have one, you will have to create this disc. Put your empty DVD into your DVD Drive and create your System repair disc. Once it’s burned, label it WINDOWS SYSTEM REPAIR DVD and keep it in a safe place. Remember that you won’t be able to restore a System Image without a System repair disc.
Select your DVD Drive and clic Create disc.
That’s it ! You now have successfully made a backup of your Windows system drive.
Sofa Tiger says : Remember that Windows 7 Home editions does NOT allow you to save your system Image over the network.
